Flames assistant coach Jack Chamangwana said the friendly match which his side played against Egypt on Monday night was worthwhile as it has revealed a number of aspects they must polish before their 2017 Afcon qualifying campaign opener with Zimbabwe on Saturday.
The Flames lost the match 2-1, but Chamangwana said it was important they played a strong side like Egypt.
Speaking at the Chileka Airport Chamangwana said the Flames succumbed to their usual weakness of conceding early.
“We conceded in the first 20 minutes of the first half and again in the second minute of the second half. That is what killed us. But we came back stronger in the second half and managed to score a goal as well as dominate play.
“But we need to work on that weaknesses and ensure there is concentration from the players during the entire match from word go. That is what we will be working on in the next three days before we face Zimbabwe,” said Chamangwana.
Captain Joseph Kamwendo, who was the architecture of the consolation goal as his clever free kick set John Banda, said the match has helped them work on coordination between old guards and new players.
“As veterans we had the chance to play together in a tough match situation alongside the youngsters who did well at the Cosafa. It was important for us to jell before we play Zimbabwe in a competitive match,” he said.
Head coach Young Chimodzi will address a press conference at the Chiwembe Technical Centre on Wednesday morning at 11:00 hours.
