Chilobwe United registered their first win in the NBS Bank National Division League after beating Namitete Zitha 2-1 at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji on Sunday afternoon.
The match was the only NBS Bank NDL fixture played over the weekend after it was postponed last week following the passing of Chilobwe United Technical Director, veteran coach Rodgers Yasin.
Chilobwe United opened the scoring through Anzeru Joseph, who was assisted by Kondwani Siliya, before Namitete Zitha equalised in the 57th minute through Maxwell Mangwere from the penalty spot.
Siliya then turned from provider to scorer, netting the winner in the 87th minute to hand Chilobwe United their first victory of the season.
The result has moved the NDL debutants one place up the table from ninth to eighth, displacing Mzuzu City Hammers, who have dropped to ninth. Namitete Zitha remain 11th without a point after three matches.
Chilobwe United, coached by former Malawi international Elvis Kafoteka, earned promotion from the third tier after winning the Central Region Premier Division, now rebranded as Regional Division League One, while Namitete Zitha are competing in their second NDL season.
At the top of the table, Ndirande Stars lead with seven points, level with second-placed Songwe Border United and third-placed Embangweni United. Extreme FC are fourth with six points, while FOMO FC sit fifth with five points.
