Flames Await 2027 AFCON Qualifiers Draw

Malawi has been placed in Pot Three alongside Kenya, Libya, Tanzania, Niger, Mauritania, The Gambia, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Togo and Rwanda.

A total of 48 teams will participate in the qualifiers, with the draw expected to produce 12 groups. The final tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, who have already secured their places but will still take part in the qualifying campaign.

The draw ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association from 12:00 GMT.

According to the qualification roadmap, the first two matchdays will be played during the FIFA international window from 21 September to 6 October 2026. Matchdays Three and Four are scheduled for 9 to 17 November 2026, while the final two matchdays will be played from 22 to 30 March 2027.

The 2027 AFCON finals will be staged from 19 June to 17 July 2027 in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Flames last qualified for AFCON in 2021, where they reached the Round of 16, and will be looking to compete strongly in the qualifiers as they target a return to Africa’s biggest football stage.
