Malawi National Women’s Team head coach Lovemore Fazili says the Scorchers are targeting a positive start against Australia in the FIFA Series tournament in Kenya.
The Scorchers will face Australia in the semifinal, with the winner advancing to meet either Kenya or India in the final, while the losing sides will contest the third-place playoff.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Fazili expressed confidence in his team’s readiness and approach.
“We are well prepared for the game tomorrow. Everyone is ready, we have tried to polish all areas in every department, and the players are going to give us a good performance,” he said.
On the team’s tactical approach, Fazili emphasized patience and control.
“The approach is to stay composed, not rush things, control the game first and then push forward to look for goals,” he added.
The coach also acknowledged the absence of key players Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, describing it as a challenge but also an opportunity for others.
“It’s a big blow that they are not with us, but we have players and we always have other plans to approach the game without them. This is a chance for other players to showcase their talent and I am sure they will deliver,” he said.
The match will mark the first time the Scorchers face non-African opposition, while Australia will also be playing their first match on African soil.
