Mpira TV Records 80 Percent Subscriber Growth

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that Mpira TV recorded significant audience growth between 2024 and 2025, with total subscribers rising from 131,730 to 236,716, representing an 80 percent increase.

The growth highlights improved market penetration and increasing interest in the platform among football fans.

FAM Marketing and Communications Manager Mayamiko Kafwamba expressed satisfaction with the upward trend.

“As the Association, we are satisfied with the increase in subscriptions and we are hopeful that more people will continue to join the platform, which will help us maximise revenue,” he said.

Kafwamba also revealed strong financial performance for the platform.

“Gross revenue rose from K307,079,286 in 2024 to K525,719,251 in 2025, representing a 71 percent increase, while net revenue nearly doubled with a 93 percent rise from K140 million to K271 million. This significantly outpaced the 52 percent increase in total expenses to K254 million, indicating improved cost management and stronger margins,” he said.

Across revenue streams, StarSat remained the dominant contributor, growing by 74 percent from K174 million to K302 million, while Zuku TV increased by 61 percent from K60 million to K97 million. Azam TV emerged as the fastest-growing platform, surging by 140 percent from K25 million to K60 million, highlighting strong expansion potential.

The improved financial performance has also translated into higher distributions to stakeholders. The 16 elite clubs shared K217 million, up from K112 million in 2024, while FAM and SULOM shared K54 million.

Overall, the 2025 performance reflects a more scalable, profitable and financially sustainable Mpira TV operation, reinforcing its role in supporting football development in Malawi.
