Reviewing Bullets’ Run to the Castel Final

With the Castel Challenge Cup final fast approaching at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, 21 February, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head into the decisive encounter following a consistent and commanding run in the competition.

The People’s Team will face Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in Saturday’s showdown, with both sides seeking to etch their names on this season’s trophy.

Bullets began their campaign in the Round of 32 with a trip to Karonga Stadium where they faced Songwe Border United. A clinical performance, highlighted by a Maxwell Gasten Phodo hat-trick, secured a 3–0 victory and a place in the Round of 16.

At Kamuzu Stadium in the Round of 16, Bullets were tested by Ndirande Stars. After falling behind, they responded strongly, with Ephraim Kondowe restoring parity before Phodo struck twice to complete the turnaround and send his side into the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal encounter against Mighty Tigers demanded tactical discipline and composure. Bullets managed the contest effectively and progressed with a solid display that underlined their attacking depth and defensive organisation.

In the semifinal, Wongani Lungu delivered a decisive performance against his former club Mzuzu City Hammers. The forward scored in each half to guide Bullets into the final.

Now, attention turns to the final hurdle. Dedza Dynamos arrive in the final after edging Blue Eagles on penalties in their semifinal, setting up an intriguing contest between two in-form sides.

Bullets interim coach Gilbert Chirwa has described the journey as demanding but rewarding.

“We have approached every match with focus and respect. The players have shown resilience throughout the campaign, and now we must prepare well for the final challenge,” said Chirwa.

With momentum built over successive rounds, Bullets will aim to translate their consistency into a strong performance as they seek to lift the Castel Challenge Cup once again.
