Malawi U17 Girls Draw Burundi in World Cup Qualifiers

Malawi’s Under 17 Girls National Team has been drawn against Burundi in the first round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, with the Young Scorchers set to begin their campaign at home in April.

The Young Scorchers will begin their qualifying campaign at home between 10 and 12 April 2026, before traveling for the return leg set for 17 to 19 April 2026.

Should Malawi progress to the second round, they will face the winner between South Sudan and Ethiopia. Possible opponents in the third round include Rwanda, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, or Djibouti.

The first leg of the second round will be played between 22 and 24 May 2026, with the return leg scheduled for 29 to 31 May 2026. The third round first leg is set for 3 to 5 July 2026, while the return fixtures will take place from 10 to 12 July 2026.

Malawi’s Young Scorchers have shown steady progress in recent years, having finished third at the COSAFA U-17 Girls Championship in 2022 and runners up at the 2025 edition, underlining their growing competitiveness on the regional stage.
