Malawi Begins CAF African Schools Championship Campaign with Double Victory Over Lesotho

Malawi’s Under-15 boys’ and girls’ teams started their 2025 CAF African Schools Championship campaign in emphatic fashion in Cape Town, South Africa, securing wins in both opening fixtures against Lesotho.

The girls’ team produced a commanding performance, thumping Lesotho 5-0, while the boys’ side claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The girls were dominant from start to finish, with goals coming from Tryness Chawala, Flora Banda, Sifati Chitenje, Eunice Sitchaya, and Talandira Kachala.
Chawala, who opened the scoring, was named Player of the Match.

Head coach Bridget Chirwa praised her side’s performance:
“I’m happy with the performance today. We started at a low pace but managed to pick up fast and controlled the game.”

The boys also started brightly, racing into a quick lead through Innocent Jauma, who scored in the 3rd minute. Intias Adam doubled the lead five minutes later.
Lesotho pulled one back early in the second half through Thapelo Pitsi, but Malawi maintained composure to secure the victory.
Adam’s impressive display earned him the Player of the Match award.

Boys’ head coach Joseph Malizani was satisfied with the result:
“What’s more important is that we have managed to collect the needed three points. We’ll pick up from where we left in our next game against Botswana.”

Both Malawi teams return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Botswana, with semifinal qualification on the line.
