FAM Commences District-Level Referees Training Program

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has rolled out a nationwide referees’ training programme targeting aspiring match officials at the district level as part of its ongoing football development initiatives.

The programme, is being implemented in collaboration with the National Bank of Malawi under the NBM Championship which is currently underway in all 31 football districts across the country.

FAM Referees Manager, Duncan Lengani, hailed the Association’s leadership under President Fleetwood Haiya, describing the initiative as a timely intervention in enhancing officiation structures nationwide.

“We are conducting referees’ training across the country, and this has been made possible through the dynamic leadership of the Football Association of Malawi in collaboration with the National Bank of Malawi,” Lengani said.

“We will continue with the training sessions up to December this year. As referees, we are grateful to FAM and NBM for giving us this opportunity to identify and nurture talent from the districts, and to increase the number of qualified match officials who can officiate at all levels of football in Malawi,” he added.

The programme began in Machinga last week before moving to Mchinji, and has now reached Mzuzu, where sessions have kicked off with students from Mzuzu University. The next districts scheduled for training are Nkhatabay, Rumphi, and Blantyre.
