Wanderers Edge Bullets to Reach FDH Bank Cup Final

Mighty Wanderers have booked their place in the 2025 FDH Bank Cup final after edging city rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 1–0 in a thrilling Blantyre derby at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Substitute Promise Kamwendo was the hero of the day, heading home an Isaac Kaliati cross in the 89th minute to hand Wanderers a memorable victory and secure their first-ever appearance in the FDH Bank Cup final since the competition’s inception in 2021.

Head coach Bob Mpinganjira hailed his side’s resilience, describing the win as a reward for discipline and tactical execution.

“It was a tough game, but the boys played according to plan. We are happy to reach the final, and our focus now is on Silver Strikers. They are a strong team, so we must prepare well to get our hands on the FDH Bank Cup trophy for the first time,” Mpinganjira said.

The Wanderers mentor added that he will continue rotating his squad to manage fatigue and maintain sharpness ahead of the final and the remaining league fixtures.

From the losing camp, Bullets head coach Peter Mponda admitted the defeat was painful but praised his players for their effort.

“It’s painful to take considering how we played. We controlled large parts of the game but failed to capitalize. Wanderers punished us from a lapse in marking,” he said.

The victory sets up a final showdown between Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday, November 9.

Silver advanced after defeating Civil Service United 1–0 in another derby, courtesy of a late strike from Andrew Joseph.
