Scorchers Shine with 3–0 Victory Over Lesotho

The Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Lesotho’s Mehalalitoe in a friendly match played on Friday at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

The Scorchers dominated the opening half and went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, courtesy of a superb brace from Asimenye Simwaka.

In the second half, captain Sabina Thom added her name to the scoresheet to seal a convincing win for Malawi.

Head Coach Lovemore Fazili expressed satisfaction with the performance, particularly highlighting the blend of regulars and new players.

“I can say it was a fair game. We are just trying to get good coordination between the regulars and the new players, so with the result, I am impressed,” Fazili said.

He further commended the defensive line and goalkeepers for keeping a clean sheet, an area that has previously drawn concerns.

Fazili also promised to rotate the squad in the next match:

“I will give a chance to other players who were not featured today in the second friendly game.”

The Scorchers and Mehalalitoe will face off again on Sunday, August 31, in the second and final friendly at Mpira Stadium.
