Malawi ready for Moz in Cosafa girls U17 semis

Malawi Under 17 girls’ quest for glory at the 2025 Cosafa Women’s Under 17 championship faces a stern test on Friday afternoon when they come up against Mozambique in the semi-final at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.

Coach Chisomo Nkhoma says her side is fully prepared the match and anticipates a competitive encounter, noting Mozambique’s strength following their emphatic 11-0 win over Mauritius in the group stages.

Malawi go into the match after a 100 percent record in the group stages where they scored nine goals and conceded none.

They beat Namibia 3-0 and Comoros 6-0 to top group A.

“We expect a good match. Mozambique have shown they are a strong team, but our focus is on scoring more goals and tightening our defense to avoid conceding,”

“We need to continue attacking with purpose and make sure we convert our chances. At the same time, we must remain solid at the back,” she Said

Malawi will be without Talandira Kachala, who picked up an injury in the win over Comoros. Kachala was instrumental in Malawi’s 3-0 victory over Namibia, where she was also named Player of the Match.

On her absence the coach said: “She’s one of our key players, especially with set pieces. Her absence will be felt, but we hope she recovers soon and rejoins the team,”
