Flames back in CHAN

Malawi are back in the 2024 CHAN Competition after accepting CAF invitation for special arranged qualifiers for the competition.

Chan is normally a 16 team competition but with three countries hosting this edition the number of teams rose to 17.

CAF then made a decision to add two more teams to make it a 19 team tournament.

The Continental football mother body then extended invitations to countries that had withdrawn from the initial qualifiers to engage for the playoffs for the extra two slots.

Malawi and other six countries who did not play in the qualifiers namely South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Gabon and the Gambia have engaged for the playoffs.

CAF will in due course communicate on the format of the playoffs which will see two teams qualifying for the tournament.

The two teams will be placed in group C alongside Uganda, Niger and Guinea.

The final tournament which was supposed to be played next month has been shifted to August 2025.
