Ten-man Flames lose to Senegal

Ten- Man Flames lost 4-0 to Senegal away in Dakar in their third 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday evening.

Flames played for over 75 minutes with ten men following the early dismissal of goalkeeper Brighton Munthali after a foul on Sadio Mane in a one-on-one situation towards the goal in the 16th minute,

Coach Patrick Mabedi sacrificed midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu for substitute goalkeeper George Chikooka.

Senegal’s opened the score sheet in the 35th minute through Pap Gueye who was set by Iliman Ndiaye.

Flames managed to contain pressure as the hosts narrowly led 1-0 at half time.

Senegal doubled their advantage in the 68th minute of the match as Mane joined Gueye on the scoresheet with a left-footed effort from the center of the 18-yard-area.

They added their third in the 71st minute, as Boulaye Dia slotted home with a close-range finish, while Nicolas Jackson added a fourth just six minutes later.

Malawi remains bottom of the table with one point from three matches while Senegal are on seven points alongside Burkina Faso who have a better goal aggregate.

The two teams face other again in four days time at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
