Flames shift focus to Burkina Faso

Flames Coach Patrick Mabedi says his subjects have settled well in Mali as the team shift focus to Tuesday’s u TotalEnergies Africa Cup Nations qualifier against Burkina Faso.

Mabedi said this after the team’s first training session at Stade du 26 Mars Annexe on Sunday morning ]

He said they are working on the mistakes that cost the team the Thursday’s match against Burundi at home and are hopeful of a positive result on Tuesday.

“”We had the first training session this morning where we concentrated much on defence while maintaining the attack after looking at the performance during the game against Burundi at home.

“There are a lot of positives that we have picked from the previous game apart from the few errors that cost us so the boys have watched video and now they know what went wrong. We had a very good combination, created chances and managed to score two goals but we were not organised when attacking and lacked discipline in transitioning to defence hence the loss.

“We have now regrouped; the morale is high and everyone is looking forward to the match. The players understand what’s on the stake and now they know it is very important to get maximum points and be in the race with the rest of the teams,” he said.

Malawi are currently at the bottom of Group L with no point after a 3-2 loss to Burundi while Burkina Faso and Senegal are second and Third respectively have drawn 1-1 in their first match.
