Bullets in third successive FDH Bank Cup final

FCB Nyasa Bullets on Wednesday evening kept their third successive FDH Bank Cup title hopes on the boil after seeing off Moyale Barracks 3-1 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Blantyre-based People’s Team will now face second-tier league side Blue Eagles of Lilongwe in the final.

With the final slot secured, the cup holders will fly out to Lusaka, Zambia today full of confidence as they switch focus to their CAF Champions League first preliminary round second leg against Red Arrows this Saturday.

Played under gleaming floodlights, Bullets took the lead in the 21st minute after some early lethargy . Ephraim Kondowe ghosted in between Moyale centrebacks Maneno Nyoni and Peter Ng’ambi to swiftly connect the ball home from a Babatunde Adepoju pass.

Five minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead in more or less similar fashion when Frank Willard found Adepoju with a pass that oozed class.

The lanky Nigerian forward coolly slotted it home to send Bullets fans into frenzy.

But the Lions of Kaning’ina breathed a new lease of life into their game at the start of the second half after some pep talk from their coach Pritchard Mwansa.

Moyale reduced the arrears in the 53rd minute through the tournament’s leading scorer Emmanuel Allan with a sharp header from a set-piece.

It was his ninth goal in the competition.

But just when it looked scary for Bullets as Moyale pushed for an equaliser, there was a moment to savour after Adepoju, who was named man-of-the-match, displayed individual brilliance to score a beauty in the 71st minute.

He dribbled past Nyoni on the left flank, leaving him for dead in the process before beating an advancing goalkeeper Olyce Nkhwazi to claim a brace and Bullets’ third.

It was his eighth goal in six game
