All set for HTD Beach Soccer National Championship

All is set for the Beach Soccer National Championship which is scheduled to take place from May 25th-26th at Sunbird Nkopola Beach in Mangochi.

This follows a draw conducted by the Football Association of Malawi and sponsors HTD at the HTD House in Blantyre on Thursday morning where six teams will battle it out for the national title.

Speaking during the draw, HTD Sales Executive Manganiso Mwanza said the sponsors are looking forward to an exciting tournament

“The tournament was shifted due to the flooding of the beaches but we are looking forward to a good tournament just like last year’s where we had positive outcomes. We have no doubt that this year’s competitions will bring in more outcomes for us as sponsors,” he said.

FAM Marketing and Broadcasting Manager Tulipo Mwenelupembe said FAM is ready to manage the highly anticipated tournament this weekend.

“We are doing very well as far as preparing or the tournament is concerned, and the venue is set to host the teams. The championship is very important because that’s the platform where the players get to compete against each other at national level and also our national team technical panel scout for best players in the country,” said Mwenelupembe.

The six teams that qualified for the National Championship include Noil and Deep Bay from Karonga, Beach Eagles from Nkhatabay, Vinthenga from Nkhotakota, Central region winners Tourism as well as Sunbird Nkopola from the Southern region.

The teams been drawn in two groups of three each and they will play against each other in a single round robin format.

Defending Champions Beach Eagles are in Group A alongside Vinthenga and Noil while group B has Deep Bay, Tourism and Sunbird Nkopola.

Top two teams from each group will qualify for semifinals with the semifinal winners meeting in the final.

The competition’s winners will go away with K3 Million while second placed and third placed teams will get 1 million and 500, 000 respectively.
