FAM Women’s League week 13 wrap-Ntopwa Win SR League

Ntopwa Women’s team on Sunday morning won the Southern Region FAM Women’s League title with a game to play following their 6-0 win against Red Lioness at Kamuzu Stadium.

Braces from Kondawo Banda and Mary Chindeya and a goal each from Shabel Bengo and Yamikani Mhango gave Ntopwa their first title in four years.

With the win, Ntopwa have 39 points while second placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, who have won the league for three consecutive seasons since 2019, have 34 points having registered a 17-0 win against Bvumbwe Women on Saturday.

The two teams will meet in the League’s final week this weekend.

In the other matches from the region, Mighty Wanderers Queens won 5-1 away against Attu Bullets while Ndirande Soccer Giants were awarded three points and two goals as Evirom did not show up at the match venue.

The race to the title is still on in the central region with one game to play, but now only Ascent Academy and MDF Lioness are the title contenders. Silver Strikers Ladies ruined their chance of winning the league after losing 1-0 to MDF Lioness on Sunday.

Before the match, a single point was separating the two teams but now MDF Lioness lead the log table with 34 points while Silver have 30 points.

Ascent Academy are now second with 32 points after a 12-0 win over Chisomo Academy on Saturday.

Both MDF Lioness and Ascent Academy have chances to win the title depending on their final fixture result. MDF Lioness will face Blue Eagles while Ascent Academy will meet Civil Service Women.

In the North Moyale Sisters, who won the title last week  beat Hardknokers 11-0.

The race for positions two to four is still on among Ekwendeni Sisters, Topik Sisters and MK Academy  who all have  24 points but Ekwendeni Sisters have an advantage on goal difference.
