Media Release: Condemnation of Hooliganism and Vandalism

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) would like to condemn the acts of vandalism that occurred at the Bingu National Stadium on 23rd September 2023 during an Airtel Top 8 season 6 launch match between Silver Strikers FC and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

The acts of hooliganism and vandalism that were perpetrated by a section of supporters who were not happy with a referee’s decision were uncalled for and put the game of Football into disrepute.

The Football Association of Malawi would like to inform all stakeholders that investigations are in progress to ascertain what happened and ensure that appropriate measures are taken against the perpetrators of the acts of hooliganism and vandalism that occurred.

FAM would like to urge all football fans to refrain from such acts of hooliganism and vandalism that dent the good image of our beautiful game, retard its development and discourage sponsors.

The FAM Competitions Committee has received reports from match officials in regard to the match which was abandoned and will convene in due course to decide on the way forward.
