Stalemate in Women’s Blantyre Derby

Mighty Wanderers Queens on Saturday afternoon held defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a goalless draw in a first ever Women’s  Football Blantyre derby .

Bullets were favourites gong into the match following their impressive performance in the opening two weeks  after scoring 26 goals in two matches.

However they could not break the Nomads defence and coach  Maggie Chombo attributed the poor showing to the  absence of  striker Vanessa Chikupira who was loaned to Ntopwa Queens .

Chikupira has 13 goals in two games having scored eight in Bullets’ 12-0 win over Bvumbwe and five goals in the 14-0 win against Red Lioness.

Coach for Mighty Wanderers Queens Thom Kazembe: “The plan was to deny them access and the girls worked as instructed. We are happy to come out of the match with a point because no one gave us a chance.

In the other match in the South, Bvumbwe Women beat Evirom 3-2 while the match between Attu Bullets and Red Lioness was postponed due to the latter’s military engagements.

In the Central Region, it was a weekend of goals galore with MDF Lioness beating Kamuzu Institute 16-1 while Silver Strikers Ladies defeated Chisomo Academy with 14-0.

On Sunday, Ascent Academy won 9-0 against Hungry Lions while Civil Service Women registered a 2-1 win against Blue Eagles Ladies.

Up north, Gafu Sisters registered their first three points after defeating Bico Women 3-1 while CY Sister won 1-0 against Topik Sisters. Moyale Sisters cemented their top seat with a  3-0 victory over MK Academy. They are the only unbeaten team in the region.

The match between Ekwendeni Sisters and Hardknockers was postponed as most of Ekwendeni players were involved in games organised by the Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa)
