Malawi Beach Soccer in must-win encounter against Morocco

Malawi National Beach Soccer team must beat Morocco this afternoon if they are to revive their chances of making it to the knockout stages of the on-going Beach Soccer Afcon in Mozambique.

This follows Morocco’s 3-1 win over the hosts at the Vilankulos Arena on Sunday afternoon.

With Morocco’s win, the Willy Kumilambe side remain the only winless team in Group A as they lost 4-2 in their first encounter against Mozambique. They are third with no point while Morocco lead the group with 3 points, same as Mozambique who are second, but they differ on goal difference.

Speaking after the team’s final training session on Sunday, Coach Willy Kumilambe said his subjects are geared to upset Morocco

“We are prepared for the match, the boys know that there is no easy team in the competition because all of us are the best so we have told them to up their game in this match.

“We know that we will  be under the scorching sun at 12:30 and we have been training the same time so that we condition ourselves. Its a slightly hotter here than home but we will manage because we have been training for two days under same weather conditions.

“This is a do or die game. We have to win at all and everyone including the players know the importance of this game so we hope to win,” said Kumilambe.

Malawi will have to win the match by at least 3 goals without conceding to qualify for the Semifinals. In Group B, Senegal have made it to the Semifinals after winning their first group stage matches.
