No pressure for Tabitha

Malawi National Women’s team Captain Tabitha Chawinga says she is not under pressure to impress at the 2022 Cosafa Women’s Championship as she makes a return to the team after two years.

Tabitha, who has just moved to Italian Seria A giants Inter Milan, is back in the Scorchers camp after missing the 2021 Cosafa Women’s Championship where Malawi reached the final for the first time and the 2022 Women Afcon qualifiers 4-3 aggregate lose to Zambia.

Speaking ahead of the Scorchers first  match on Friday, Chawinga said she will not be pressurised by people’s expectations but will play to the best of her capabilities like she has always done to help the team get the desired result.

“I don’t believe in pressure and I have never been under pressure because football is the same and if I know that I can’t perform if I am under pressure, so I am at ease.

“As a team, we are confident that we will do better this year because our team is good. We have given ourselves to fight to the last day and  hopefully bring the cup home,” said Chawinga.

The Scorchers take on Botswana at the Madibaz Stadium on Friday afternoon before meeting Comoros on Monday next week and later on Tanzania on Wednesday next week.

This year’s Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship has three groups and only group leaders and the best second placed team will progres to the knockout stages.
