Chombo in Costa Rica for mentorship programme

The Malawi Under-20 National Women’s Team Head Coach Maggie Chombo Sadik is in Costa Rica for a 3-day  FIFA Women’s Football Coaches Mentorship course.

Chombo is among the 20 Women’s Football Coaches from across the globe who are undergoing an 18-month mentorship programme that FIFA designed to help female coaches acquire new knowledge, skills and experience to develop their careers.

Through the programme, Chombo and the other coaches are being individually mentored by a top Women’s football coach from across the world and she is being mentored by the South African 2022 Wafcon Gold Medal winning Coach Desiree Ellis.

Apart from providing talented coaches with world-class mentors, the programme also aims to help female coaches to achieve greater results in their current positions, offer coaching guidance and support on career development, and create a global network of female coaches.

According to a statement released by the World football governing body, the programme is part of Fifa’s commitment to increase the opportunities that exists within football for female coaches and develop a new generation of talented coaches in the women’s game.

Since May, the mentors and mentees have had meetings over Skype and Zoom and this time around they have a face-to-face meeting.

The three-day course which started on August 11 will come to an end on August 13th and the Coaches will have a chance to watch the FIFA I20 Women’s World Cup matches involving  Germany and New Zealand as well as Brazil and Australia before they leave for their respective countries.
