Flames break second week camping

The Malawi national football team Coach Mario Marinica on Wednesday evening released local players from camp for club assignments in TNM Super League .

The Flames are in camp in preparation for the 2023 Ivory Coast TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Ethiopia and Guinea early next month.

Speaking on the team’s second week training, Marinica says he is impressed with the players’ commitment.

“It was a very good week and we managed to work on some elements that will bring the players together.

“Unfortunately we didn’t have some players who had engagements with their Clubs midweek fixtures but those that reported for duties worked so hard and were very determined.

“Looking at the performance, we think that we are on the right track because we are working on the players’ fitness to international standards and it’s working perfectly,” he said.

According to Marinica, the technical panel will early next week release the final squad which will include foreign based players ahead of the two matches.

The Flames will on June 5 host Ethiopia in their first 2023 Afcon campaign before meeting Guinea away on June 9.
