FAM embarks on LUWINGA project third phase

Football Association of Malawi is set to commence the third phase of Luwinga Technical Centre development in Mzuzu with the construction of a perimeter fence.

The Association’s President Walter Nyamilandu is on Friday expected to tour the facility and preside over the official construction site handover to the project’s contractor Rays Construction LTD.

The project ,which is valued at US110,000.00, is funded by FIFA through the FIFA Forward programme and it’s first and second phases project saw the erection of offices and hostels respectively.

According to FAM General Secretary Alfred Gunda, the Association’s infrastructure development focus has now shifted to Luwinga, which is eye-marked to host a Football School of Excellence.

“After completing the Mpira Stadium in Blantyre all our focus on infrastructure development is now on Luwinga. After delays FIFA has finally approved the project and released the funding. We want to build a wall to secure the land as we noticed that it was being encroached.

“After the wall we will now go into phase four to furniture  the hostel and offices as well as construct two football pitches as we target to open a full-fledged School of excellence within the next two years,” said Gunda.
