Madinga eager for debut

Georgia based midfielder Francisco Madinga says he is looking forward to get a chance for his Flames debut during the two 2022 AFCON qualifiers against South Sudan and Uganda.

Madinga has received several call-ups since 2019 but has never donned a Flames jersey.

He was called for the Flames’ last AFCON assignments against Burkina Faso but failed to show up due to COVID-19 restrictions in Georgia.

But the former Be Forward Wanderers winger, who joined Flame’s camp in Sudan on Monday, says he can’t wait to play his first match for Malawi.

“It is an honour to be called for the Flames as this is a dream for every player. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and I am ready if called for the job.

“But this not about me, it’s about the team. We must win and qualify for AFCON. Even if I don’t play but if we win, I will be happy. So as a team we must work hard to get results.,” he said.

Flames will play South Sudan on Wednesday, before hosting Uganda’ Cranes on Monday, March 29 at the Kamuzu Stadium.

Malawi must win the two matches if they are to qualify for the 2022 AFCON.

The Flame are third in Group B with four points, four behind leaders Burkina Faso and three behind second-placed Uganda. South Sudan are bottom placed with just three points.
