Flames get clean bill of health

The Flames squad of local based players is on Thursday expected to start full time training with a full house after all the players passed the medical and fitness tests held on Wednesday.

About 27 players have reported for camp at the Mpira Village in preparation for next month’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against South Sudan and Uganda.

Nyasa Big Bullets defender Precious Sambani, who was away in South Africa for trails at Golden Arrows, is yet to join camp as he is  finalising COVID-19 protocols.

The squad also underwent COVID 19- rapid tests upon arrival at Mpira Village on Tuesday and all players and officials tested negative.

Coach Meck Mwase was relieved that all the players are in good condition considering that they have been out of action for four-weeks since the Super League was suspended.

“I am happy that all the players are in good condition. And we are set to start our training on Thursday.

“All the players who have been called into camp are equally good and we emphasize that no nobody has a permanent position in the squad. So only those that are going to work hard during training are going to make it into the final squad,” said Mwase

The Flames will play South Sudan away on March 24, before hosting Uganda five days later at the Kamuzu Stadium. They sit third in Group B with four points, while leaders Burkina Faso have 8 points. Uganda are second with 7 points while South Sudan anchor the group with three points.
