CAF approves Malawi CAF B Manual

The Council of African Football (CAF) has approved Malawi’s CAF B Coaching Course Manual and programme which FAM developed earlier this year.

The manual was developed in line with CAF’s directive that each Member Association should have customised Manuals for CAF Certified Coaching Courses as CAF has stopped giving one size fit all syllabuses.

Following the development, FAM is expected to hold a CAF B Coaching course from January 2021.

FAM Technical Development Officer Benjamin Kumwenda said the association is yet to upload the names of the course participants in CAF’s Coach Registration system for approval before holding the course.

“Actually, there are eight requirements for a country to hold a CAF B Coaching License Course. So far, we have fulfilled seven of them including the course programme, technical department structure, Course syllabus and the examination procedure.

“We were waiting for the coaches to apply for the course before we apply for the Coach Registration system in the CAF’s CMS. Now we have the Coaches’ applications and once they been approved by CAF, we will set the dates when the course will be held, probably in January 2021,” he said.

According to Kumwenda, FAM received a total of 40 applications from local coaches but only 30 will be admitted to the programme.

The coaches will go through a 160-hour program and must pass examinations to be awarded the CAF B Coaching License.

CAF B License is a minimum coaching qualification required for one to coach in the country’s elite Super League.

The team that developed the manual comprised of FAM Technical Director John Kaputa, Kumwenda, Flames head Coach Meck Mwase, former National Football Coaches Association chairperson late Stuart Mbolembole, FAM Regional Football Coordinator for the South Patrick Kulemeka, and Coach Instructor Eddington Ng’onamo.
