2024 Beach Soccer Leagues launch on Sunday

The 2024 HTD Beach Soccer National Championship will be launched on Sunday at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communication director Gomezgani Zakazaka said all is set for competition.

Zakazaka said FAM president Fleetwood Haiya will launch the competition which will be spiced by a match between Senga Bay Warriors and Big 2 Munali.

Meanwhile, Beach Soccer Association president Gift Chimbalanga said they expect another successful competition.

He said they expect the championship, played in the country’s five beach soccer centres, namely Mangochi, Salima, Karonga, Nkhata Bay and Nkhotakota, to be competitive.

“As you are aware Malawi qualified for the Confederation of Africa Football TotalEnergies Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt later this year.

“This is a big motivation for the teams. We expect players to put up a grand show as they stand a chance to be selected for the national team squad,” said Chimbalanga.

Malawi qualified for the CAF Beach Soccer Afcon finals to be held in Egypt after knocking out Burundi.

Nkhata Bay-based Beach Eagles are HTD Beach Soccer National Champions.

They defeated Sunbird Nkopola from Mangochi 6-4 in May to defend the title.

The champions received K 3.5 million, gold medals and the trophy while runners up Sunbird Nkopola got K 1.5 million and silver medals.

Vinthenga who finished third got K1million.
