‘2015 is my Mazembe year’- Kamwendo

Kamwendo in action for Mazembe

Flames captain Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo says he expects to make a huge impact in the 2015 CAF champions League campaign with his DRC side TPM Mazembe.
Kamwendo, who joined the former CAF champions League back to back winners early last year from Mozambican side Liga Malculumana, saw very little action in last year’s competition, which saw Mazembe reaching the semifinals where they lost to the eventual winners ET Setifienne of Algeria However he played most games for Mazembe in the domestic league.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder played and shone in all the three games as Mazembe won a four team international club tournament that was participated by Zesco of Zambia, Azam of Tanzania and fellow DRC side Don Bosco last week. He scored a goal in Mazembe’s 2-0 win over Bosco.
“This is my year and I will establish myself as regular. When I joined this club last year it was more about settling down and learning its culture.
“It was difficult to break through as this is a star studded squad. But I am now settled and fully focused on playing football and I am enjoying every moment of it here. So I challenge that this year I will be one of the top players for the team in the Champions League as well as the local league,” said Kamwendo.
The left winger is part of the TP Mazembe squad that is set to leave for Florida, USA tomorrow for a two week training camp in preparation for CAF Champions League assignments.
Mazembe have been seeded from the preliminary round of the Champions League qualifiers that start this weekend and will join the campaign in the second round. They will play the winner between South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and St Michael United of Mauritius during the weekend of 13/15 March 2015.
