SWAM hails FAM for private Media inclusion

Sports Writers Association of Malawi (SWAM) has hailed the Football Association of Malawi  (FAM) for its commitment to media inclusion in national team assignments, ensuring that private media personnel are part of every national team trip since Fleetwood Haiya took office as president.

SWAM Vice President Lucy Kadzongwe made the remarks during the Association’s Elective Annual General Meeting which was held in Salima on Saturday.

Kadzongwe said the initiative has helped the Malawi media to be part of first hand action during national team away engagements.

She also thanked FAM for donating K2.5 million towards the organization of the meeting.

“The support has come in handy because we were facing a deficit in some way.”

“FAM is in the transformation era, and they truly appreciate the role of journalists. This is why they ensure media personnel are part of trips to cover games for the Flames, Scorchers, and junior teams,” she added

FAM Media Ad-hoc Committee chairperson Grey Phiri who represented FAM President at the event, emphasized the crucial role of the media in football development, reinforcing FAM’s commitment to empowering journalists.

“We are transforming the game, and this cannot be achieved without the media. You (reporters) play a crucial role in football development, and as an association, we will continue supporting you so that you get empowered,” he said.

Through these initiatives, FAM continues to strengthen its relationship with the media, recognizing their role in promoting Malawian football.
