Silver Strikers, who opened a seven-point lead after defeating runners-up Ascent Soccer last week, are on the road to face bottom-placed Topik Academy at Mzuzu Stadium, while Ascent host Civil Service Women at Ascent Ground on Sunday.
The Silver Ladies sit comfortably at the top with 33 points, followed by Ascent on 26. Mighty Wanderers Queens are third on 20 points and host seventh-placed Kukoma Ntopwa Women, who have 18 points, at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.
Fourth-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, with 19 points, travel to Mzuzu for a meeting with Moyale Sisters, who remain in the relegation zone with five points. MDF Lionesses, also on 19 points in fifth place, welcome MK Academy at Champions Stadium. MK Academy sit ninth with four points.
Sunday’s fixtures carry the biggest spotlight, involving the two title contenders — Silver Strikers Ladies and Ascent Soccer — as the battle for the championship intensifies.
Silver’s forward, Deborah Henry, will be looking to extend her commanding lead in the Golden Boot race. She currently sits on 18 goals, eight ahead of Ascent internationals Leticia Chinyamvula and Mayamiko Mkandawire, as well as Mighty Wanderers striker Tawina Kawaga, who each have eight.
Mercy Mkandawire of Civil Service Women and Kukoma Ntopwa’s Takondwa Gambuleni follow with six goals, while three players are tied on five — Jessie Yosefe of Civil Service Women, Kondawo Banda of Ntopwa and Vanessa Issa of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women.
