Silver Strikers Ladies have secured a spot in the finals of the Goshen-FAM National Championship after two dominant victories in the playoffs.
The Central Bankers thrashed Mighty Wanderers Queens 5-0 on Friday afternoon before demolishing Topik Sisters 6-0 on Saturday at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
After their emphatic win against Wanderers, Andrew Chikhosi’s side delivered another commanding performance against the Northern Region-based Topik Sisters to seal their place in the finals.
Despite a slow start, the Area 47 Ladies took a narrow lead before halftime, with Gladys Banda breaking the deadlock just past the half-hour mark.
Silver Strikers Ladies came out firing in the second half, adding five more goals through a Chisomo Banda hat-trick, alongside strikes from Wezzie Mvula and Carol Mathyola, sealing a resounding 6-0 victory.
With this win, Silver Strikers Ladies will face Civil Service in the championship final, while the winner of the Topik Sisters and Wanderers Queens clash will take on Moyale Barracks Sisters.
Speaking after the match, Chikhosi expressed his delight with the team’s performance, emphasizing their continued push toward the national finals.
“We’re happy to qualify for the quarterfinal stage and are looking forward to the next round. Moving forward, we need to work on both our defense and attack to perform even better,” he said.
Meanwhile, Topik Sisters’ head coach Levi Mhone acknowledged his team’s struggles but remained optimistic about their next match.
“Despite the heavy defeat, my players gave their all against Silver. We have another game tomorrow against Wanderers Queens, and we’ll work on the players’ concentration. It’s like a final for us, so we need to put this loss behind us and focus on the next challenge,” he said.
