Silver host League debutants in FDH Bank Final

The FDH Bank Cup will on Friday come to its climax as two finalists, Silver Strikers and Ekwendeni Hammers lock horns at the magnificent Bingu National Stadium

The match will decide who will go home with the trophy and K25 million in the country’s highest sponsored cup.

Friday’s show will be a third meeting between Silver Strikers and Ekwendeni Hammers, who first met in the 2020-21 TNM Super League’s first round fixture in December last year which the Mzimba-based outfit won 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.

The two met at Nankhaka last Saturday season’s final show for both.

Rodwell Robert and Frank Banda’s goals were enough for the hosts to claim maximum points to finish as the league’s runners up.

As they go to the final on Friday, the Northern Region Super League debutants have scored five goals in regulation time while the Daniel Kabwe side have netted seven goals in 90 minutes.

Ekwendeni Hammers beat Airborne Rangers 2-1 in the round of 32 before another 1-0 victory over Wanderers Reserves in the round of 16.

In the quarterfinals, the Etson Kadenge side defeated Ntopwa FC 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium and their semifinal showpiece against a fellows Northern Region side Rumphi United ended in post-match penalties after a goalless 90 minutes. Hammers won 3-2 after the penalties.

As for Silver Strikers, they go into the final match having defeated three Super League teams.

The Central Bankers won 2-1 in their first encounter against Immigration FC at Mpira Stadium in the round of 32 before a 2-0 victory over Moyale Barracks in the round of 16.

A 4-2 win on post-match penalties in Silver’s quarterfinal encounter against Nyasa Big Bullets saw them booking a place in the semifinal after a two-all draw in regulation time.

Silver then thrashed Be Forward Wanderers 3-0 at Bingu National Stadium in the semifinal match last month.

The final match will also decide if Silver’s Stain Davie will score two three goals to surpass Vincent Nyangulu who is currently leading the scorers with four goal
