Mulunguzi Academy have strengthened their push for the Nthanda Under-14 League title in Zomba District as the race for top honours continues to gather momentum.
Despite settling for a goalless draw against Disciples FC over the weekend, Mulunguzi remain top of the table with 53 points from 24 matches. Anganga Academy are close behind in second place with 49 points from 23 games, while Mitekete FC sit third on 47 points, underlining how finely balanced the title race remains.
Zomba District Youth Football Committee (ZDYFC) General Secretary Skeva Munyapa expressed satisfaction with the competitiveness of the league, noting that the narrow points gap among the leading teams keeps the title race wide open.
“As things stand, we are happy with the healthy competition. Looking at the small difference in points among the top three teams, anything can still happen,” Munyapa said.
In the M’mera Mpoyamba Under-16 League, Disciples FC currently lead the standings with 45 points from 19 matches. They are followed by Saints United on 42 points, with Zomba Soccer Saints third on 40 points.
Results from Saturday saw Disciples FC draw 1–1 with Immigration FC, Mulunguzi Academy fall 5–0 to Sparkle Foundation Academy, Maziko Academy and We Plant FC play out a 1–1 draw, while Saints United edged Star Rangers 2–1.
Meanwhile, Neno District has already crowned its champions. Lisungwi Medicals clinched the Nthanda Under-14 League title, with Kasamba FC finishing runners-up and Umodzi FC taking third place. Kasamba FC’s Norman Samuel emerged as the league’s top scorer with nine goals, while Lisungwi Medicals’ Tisiyano Macheso was named Player of the Season.
In the M’mera Mpoyamba Under-16 League in Neno, Young Soccer FC were crowned champions ahead of Kasamba FC, with Tsanya Kings United finishing third. Sunganani Betha of Young Soccer FC finished as the top scorer with seven goals, while teammate Stain Kankhono earned the Player of the Season accolade.
Elsewhere, Mwanza District is yet to determine its champions, with decisive fixtures scheduled for next weekend. In the Nthanda Under-14 League, Pulli Young Stars, Silota Youth, Faiti Academy and Lionde Hardknockers will contest the semi-finals. The M’mera Mpoyamba Under-16 League semi-finals will feature Town Hammers, Boca Juniors, Kabango Youth and Ronaldo FC as they battle for a place in the final.
