FAM TD begins prestigious FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma in Brazil

Football Association of Malawi Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda has been selected as one of the 25 participants on FIFA ‘s prestigious new technical Leadership Diploma launched in Brazil last week.

Benjamin Kumwenda joined other selected Technical leaders from Member Associations and Confederations from around the global at the Brazilian Football federation (CBF) training complex in Rio de Janeiro for block one of the 18-month long course.

The FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma aims to become the globally recognized qualification for Technical leadership working in the game and will prepare participants for the distinct challenges and opportunities faced by a Technical Leadership within a Member Association. Five core domain areas will be covered in the 18 months.

“We have to raise the bar by shifting our focus to football development” Walter Nyamilandu Manda President of Football Association of Malawi once said.

“However, we need to Identify our National Football Identity (Philosophy). We cannot change culture, but we can shape it, therefore there is need for us to understand our culture and values for us to build our football game:

FIFA Director of Global Football Development Steven Martens said: “We are delighted to welcome Benjamin Kumwenda onto our new Technical Leadership Diploma.

On his part Kumwenda said: “For me it has really been great to be among the great technical leaders I have met in the course. The interactions I have made with Technical directors from other associations, Members from Confederations, Brazilian legends and coaches has been great and grown me in my leadership.

“I have learnt and enjoyed how to collaborate with people of different cultures, know how people learn and to facilitate a workshop. I can build up a National Football Identity (Philosophy), Organization Culture and develop strategic vision of an organization.

“In the next 18 months I am looking forward to mature to technical Leadership Expert.”

Finally, Carlos Alberto Parreira said “Be prepared when opportunity comes and don’t give up when you are not successful. We have an opportunity now and we can build our organization.
