Eagles win TNM Super League first round

Blue Eagles

Blue Eagles on Wednesday sealed their top-slot TNM Super League first round finish in spectacular fashion with a 6-0 comprehensive demolition of PremierBet Wizards at Nakhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Area-30-based cops dislodged Silver Strikers having amassed 32 points from their 15 first-round fixtures. The Bankers trail by three points on second position.
The feat goes with K300 000 prize which is given at the end of the season.
It was also a sweet-revenge for Eagles who were ousted from the Carlsberg Cup 2-1 by Wizards a fortnight ago.
The hero of the afternoon for the Malawi Police Service (MPS) outfit was Maxwell Salambula who claimed a hat-trick.
Eagles led 3-0 at half time through goals from Stuart Mbunge and a brace from Salambula and in the second half, Chisomo Chilasa made 4-0 before Salambula completed his hat-trick.
Gilbert Chirwa hit the last nail on Wizards’ coffin.
Eagles team manager Gabriel Chirwa said: “We are happy to have won the first round, after setting the pace, it was only proper that we finish first. However, this is just half the journey as our mission is to win the title for the first time.”
Wizards technical director and owner Peter Mponda admitted that his charges were hopeless on the day, but said they will go back to the drawing board to plan for the second round.
Wizards have finished the first round on 12th position with 12 points.
