One of Malawi’s leading car hire firm Country Wide has pumped K8 million for the inaugural Southern Region Football Association Knockout Cup set for kick off next month.
The news was unveiled at a press conference jointly held by the Association and the company at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.
The cup will be participated by non- league teams at district level as well as teams in the Premier Division and Divisions One of the Southern Region Football League.
Country Wide Car Hire head of marketing Linley Lipipa said the company has passion towards sports development in the country hence their partnership with SRFA.
“We would also like to extend the sponsorship to the Centre and North. We are here to stay for the next few years to come as long as SRFL exercise sound management,” she said.
SRFA chairman Raphael Humba was over the moon with the news, which came barely four days after the Association secured sponsorship from Nsejjere Sports Wear for the Southern Region League.
“We are thankful to Country wide and we promise to safeguard this partnership,” he said.
FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the association will ensure that the company gets maximum benefits of being associated with football in Malawi.
The Cup will be played in the 14 districts of the region at the preliminary level. The 14 district winners will then join the Division League teams for the Regional knockout phase.
The champions will get K 2 million. Runners up K 1 million and third placed team will receive K500,000.00. The Champions at district level will get K 100,000.00 each.
