
Blantyre Zero FC have retained the Under 20 Women Fifa FAM Cup honours after emerging top of a three team round robin national playoffs at the Luwinga Technical Centre in Mzuzu on Sunday.
The Southern Region queens finished the competition with six points after wins over Northern Region champions Moyale FC and Central Region champions DD Sunshine.
Zero beat Moyale 2-1 in the opening match with goals from Caroline Majamanda and Enelicio Mhango while Temwa Kaonga scored for Moyale.
Moyale then saw their title hopes vanish as they lost 4-0 to DD Sunshine in the second game. Temwa Chawinga, Wezzie Muvla, Maldin Ngulube and Fanny Mwale scored a goal each.
The stage was then set for the title decider between BT Zero and DD Sunshine and the champions came from behind to snatch a 4-2 win.
Zero scored first through Mhango but Sunshine equalized within five minutes through Eluby Botoman. Sunshine then took the lead from a penalty goal scored by Mwale only for Zero to equalize through Charity Phiri, who a minute from half time claimed a brace from a tight angle to restore Zero’s lead.
Mhango scored her second in the 70th minute to make it 4-2 and assure her side of the title defence. She finished as the top scorer with three goals while Sabin Thom of Sunshine was voted the best player of the tournament.
Zero received K 1 million in prize money while second placed Sunshine got K750, 000.00 with third placed Moyale receiving K250, 000.00
