Bullets go nine points clear

Was on target: Msowoya

Big Bullets kept their hopes of retaining the TNM Super League title nicely on the boil at the weekend when they beat Red Lions 4-2 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The defending champions have now opened a yawning nine-point gap at the top of the table. They now have 38 points while Blue Eagles, who whacked Civo United 4-1 on Saturday, are second with 29 points.
The Zomba-based soldiers took an early lead through a simple tap-in from Kumbukani Mwambene, but Bullets equalised through Chiukepo Msowoya’s header from a Yamikani Fodya corner kick in the 16th minute.
Five minutes later, Bullets increased the lead via new-signing Chikondi Likwemba.
And with only four minutes before recess, Henry Kabichi made 3-1 when he tapped in a frekick from Fodya.
However, after resumption, the Lions stepped up their tempo and claimed the second goal through Stevie Ziba in the 65th minute, but Bullets were not done yet as James Chilapondwa struck the fourth from the penalty spot after Lions’ goaltender Clement Mlombwa fouled man of the match McFarlen Ngwira.
However, Bullets were dealt a blow when goalkeeper Owen Chaima was taken to the hospital after suffering an arm injury.
In the Eagles versus Civo encounter, striker Schumacher Kuwali hogged the limelight when he scored all the goals for the cops while Nelson Kangunje scored the consolation goal for the civil servants.
Mighty Be Forward Wanderers suffered their second consecutive league loss on Saturday after going down 0-1 to Kamuzu Barracks. Zinjani Yona struck the lone goal of the match.
It was Wanderers’ fourth league defeat which puts them 12 points behind leaders Bullets as they have 26 points and are yet to register a win in the second round and they bare now seventh on the log table.
League anchors Fisd Wizards returned from Mzuzu with two points after holding Moyale and Mzuni to goalless draws. They now have 11 points from 17 games.
Silver Strikers’ revival under veteran tactician Young Chimodzi continued when they edged Dedza Young Soccer 2-1. Green Harawa and Peter Wadabwa were on target for Silver whereas Amadu Makawa scored for Dedza.
