Mouth-watering fixtures in FDH Bank Cup Quarterfinals

The FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal draw conducted on Friday morning has thrown up some mouthwatering clashes – with the tie at Silver Stadium the pick of the bunch.

Silver Strikers will welcome League title race rivals Nyasa Big Bullets just a few days after meeting them in the Super League.

The two sides crash in a potential Super League title decider this afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.

Be Forward Wanderers have been handed a tricky tie at home against MAFCO FC.

Super League giant Killers Dedza Young Soccer and Rumphi United will face each in all second-tier teams quarterfinal while Ekwendeni Hammers will host Ntopwa United in another exciting fixture.

There is a possibility of a Blantyre derby in the semifinal if Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers win their last eight encounters.

The last eight matches will be played next weekend except for the Silver and Bullets encounter whose schedule will depend on the latter’s progress at the CECAFA Club championship in Tanzania.

FDH Bank marketing manager Ronald Chimchere said : “The slogan Watsalawatsala tells it all, you lose, you are out. From how the quarterfinal draw has come out, it looks that it’s going to be an exciting competition which is what we have been looking for. We wish all the teams all the best as 25 million Kwacha is now on the table for them.”

FAM Commercial and Marketing director Limbani Matola said :” Before we look at the money on the table, we have to look at the contribution that this cup has brought to Malawi football. We have seen two teams from the 62 regional teams making it to the quarterfinals after beating the so called big teams . So the Cup has helped regional teams to build their stamina. In terms of administration, we are ready as ever, we want to upgrade football in the country through the cup. We are happy so far that there is high level of professionalism in both officiation and even on the pitch and we hope that this will continue going forward.”
