Super League on 3 week recess

Super League of Malawi (SULOM)  has suspended the TNM Super League for three weeks in adherence to the newly gazetted Covid-19 prevention laws as announced by Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 on Monday.

The new laws restrict public gathering to a maximum of 50 people which makes it is impossible to organise an Elite League match .

“With the new FIFA five substitutes rule, players are already 20 per team (40) plus seven technical officers (14) thus the total number of teams on the pitch is at 54 already.

“This excludes match officials, the media, paramedics, stewards and Police. With the new laws in place, it is therefore, impossible to have a match played under minimum requirements .

“SULOM will fully comply with the newly gazetted laws in an effort to fight the pandemic,” reads a statement signed by General Secretary Williams Banda.

SULOM has appealed with all it’s stakeholders to observe all the precautionary measures to fight the pandemic.

As of Monday, January 28 2020, the country had recorded 13,027 Covid-19 cases with  321 deaths and 6,080 recoveries.
