Fifa/FAM U-15 leagues’ launch Saturday

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will on Saturday launch the Fifa/ FAM Under-15 Regional Leagues on Saturday 31st October 2015 at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.
The leagues will be participated by under-15 district teams from 18 districts, 11 in the Central Region and seven in the South Eastern Region.
Minister of Sports and Culture Grace Chiumia, her Education counterpart Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano as well as mayors of all the four cities are expected to grace this historic and grand occasion.
Also in attendance will be District Commissioners and Education manager of all the 18 district will be in attendance as well as local football officials.
Fifa Senior Manager Development Programme for Africa r  Zelkifi Rahman Ngoufonja  and Fifa Development Officer for Southern Africa Ashford Mamelodi will lead a list of officials from Fifa, among them Presidents  of the Lesotho and Botswana FA’s and Fifa Technical Development Officer for Southern Africa Govinden Thondoo.
The launch will be spiced up by official opening games for the South/Eastern Region between Zomba Urban and Chiradzulu as well as Central Region between Lilongwe Urban and Dedza.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu said the project is being piloted in Malawi because the country has structures of grass roots football in place.
Nyamilandu said the success of the two-year pilot project was paramount to its implementation in other countries.
“Once the pilot has been successful, the model will be replicated elsewhere hence the presence of highly powered delegation from Fifa to ensure a successful launch.”
Technical Director John Kaputa said the project was an opportunity for Malawi to have a perfect background for the youth development.
