FAM has expressed sadness on the passing on of Big Bullets FC and Flames defender Douglas Chirambo.
The defender died on Sunday morning in Thyolo after succumbing to a brain tumor and is being laid to rest this afternoon in his home village in Rumphi District.
“We are shocked and devastated by the tragic news of Big Bullets left back,” FAM President Walter Nyamilandu has said from Egypt, where he is attending a CAF congress.
“Here was a man who was an integral part of the revolution of Big Bullets FC last season as they won the Super League and Carlsberg Cup double for the first time since 2002. The football fraternity will surely miss him. At this time our thoughts are with his family, his club Big Bullets FC, the football family in general. May his soul rest in peace.”
Nyamilandu also said a minute of silence will be observed at all games during the opening weekend of the Super League season next week.
Chirambo made his debut for the Flames in November 2007 against Swaziland in an international  friendly while his last international duty was at the  2013 Cosafa Cup in Zambia.
He was the second current long serving Bullets player, after captain Fischer Kondowe, having played for the People’s time since 2006.
